Watkins Glen, NY — You ever have one of those days where everything’s going perfectly… until it suddenly isn’t? That’s exactly what happened to Connor Zilisch on Saturday.
The 18-year-old wheelman absolutely owned the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen International, taking the checkered flag in style. Victory Lane should’ve been nothing but smiles and champagne — but instead, it turned into a trip to the hospital.
According to Jayski.com, Zilisch was celebrating on top of his No. 88 when he lost his footing and fell hard to the ground. Medical crews moved in immediately, and he was taken to a local hospital. The verdict: a broken collarbone. The good news? CT scans for his head were clear.
Zilisch jumped on X later to give fans the update in his own words:
“Thank you everybody for reaching out today. I’m out of the hospital and getting better already. Thankfully, CT scans for my head are clear, I just have a broken collarbone. Thankful for all the medics for quick attention and grateful it wasn’t any worse.❤️”
The injury means no Cup Series debut for Zilisch this weekend. Trackhouse Racing confirmed they’ve pulled the No. 87 Chevrolet from Sunday’s Go Bowling at The Glen (2 p.m. ET, USA Network, HBO Max, MRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, NBC Sports App) and are focused on getting their driver back to 100%.
