I’ll be honest—going into this interview, I thought it might be a quick ten-minute chat, a couple of stories, maybe a plug for an upcoming show, and that’d be it.
But Marty Raybon had other plans.
I grew up listening to Shenandoah. Songs like “Two Dozen Roses” and “Sunday in the South” were a regular part of the soundtrack in our house and on road trips. So yeah, I was kind of a fanboy heading into this one. But what I didn’t expect was just how generous Marty would be with his time—and how deep we’d end up going into the world of country music.
We talked about everything from Shenandoah’s early years to their unexpected resurgence thanks to TikTok, to working with Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan on that incredible re-recording of “Sunday in the South.” But the real heart of this episode is Marty’s thoughts on where country music is heading and what advice he has for young people trying to break through. His stories are honest, grounded, and full of perspective you only get from someone who’s really lived it.
Also—just wait until you hear him say “Ohio.” I can’t explain it. Just trust me.
If every interview went like this one, I’d do them all day. Marty is a genuinely good guy, and whether you’re a longtime Shenandoah fan or new to the band, I think you’ll get a lot out of this conversation.
Give it a listen below and let me know what you think.
