Colossal Biosciences, a real-life version of Jurassic Park (minus the island and chaos… so far), says it has brought back a dire wolf—an animal that hasn’t walked the Earth in about 10,000 years.
Using DNA from fossils and editing the genome of a modern gray wolf, their scientists created what they’re calling the first dire wolf pup of the modern era. Some experts argue it’s not a “true” dire wolf, but something new that just looks like one. Still, the science is wild.
Colossal isn’t stopping there—they’re aiming to bring back the woolly mammoth by 2028, and recently revealed a fuzzy new “woolly mouse.” They’ve also cloned four critically endangered red wolves.
Life, uh… finds a way.
